Rediscover America!
With Hank Mallery!

Delighting Audiences with Songs & Stories of America
Since 1988!
Creating unique images of notable events, people and periods
in American History through songs and stories that inspire appreciation for
and discovery of our shared past!
No Special Schooling! For over 20 years, Hank has observed others and received
on-the-job training, from hourly-paid work as a Canal
Boatman on the C& O Canal to Cave Guide at Mammoth Cave
National Park; Hank
Mallery has been using his life experiences to breathe life into his
presentations. His time spent as an actor, director and stage hand are
immediately evident in the staging of his performances. His years spent
songwriting and playing music as both a solo artist and front-man of the
band Crookneck Chandler and the Tibbee Bottom Boys have polished his
musical abilities and stage presence. Perhaps more importantly, his years
spent working as a gas station attendant and janitor keep him humbled to
his Mississippi
roots.
In front of a live audience, Hank
Mallery exudes enough energy to power Tibbee Bottom itself. He has delighted
audiences from local libraries to International Conferences in states from Maine to Mississippi.
Each program features Hank playing traditional, popular and a few original
songs. Years of life experience, observing others and on-the-job training have
gone into the development of each and every presentation.
The Presentations:
“Towpath
Tunes & Tales”
has Hank singing songs both
traditional and original and telling stories as “Cletus” about America’s
Canal Era. Hank uses his three years
of driving mules and working onboard the canal boats The Georgetown and The
Canal Clipper on the C&O
Canal to bring this
program to life.
“Tall Sails
& Salty Tales”
has Hank singing the shanties of the
Oceans and songs of the Great Lakes and
telling humorous tales of both. Hank
uses his years of working in the Charlestown Navy Yard and living in the Great Lakes region to bring you this salty
characterization.
“Steel Rail
Tunes & Tales”
has Hank dressed in traditional train
attire, sharing the songs and stories inspired by Trains and some even
written by Hobos. Chug along as Hank
uses his childhood love of trains and years spent working alongside the
Short Line and other railroads and organizing festivals to celebrate the history
of trains.
In “Hard
Times”
Hank shares a variety of music genres including folk, blues
and bluegrass to take you on a musical journey through the trials and
tribulations of the working class while infusing humorous stories along the
way.
Hank uses his time spent working as a gas station attendant,
janitor and seasonal park ranger to connect with these songs and stories
about financial hardship and despair.
“Appalachian
Invasion”
is a new program Hank has developed using songs and stories
from and about the mountaineers, relating to their struggles and migration
to industrial cities like Cleveland.
Hank uses his personal family’s journey in the 1930’s as
well as years of research in this heavily bluegrass influenced
presentation.
“Irish, I
Guess”
has Hank portraying the jovial Irishman
Trader McGuinness to share the
songs and stories of Ireland
as you laugh and sing along. Hank
digs back to his Irish roots of the O’Malley Clan of County Cork to
bring the songs and tales to life.
In the “American
Folk Song Sing Along”
Hank shares the stories behind many of America’s Favorite Folk
Songs and leads you in singing along.
Hank uses his 20 years of song collecting and research to provide
you with some interesting insights to songs that are sure to invoke a sense
of nostalgia.
From major
festivals to small intimate gatherings, Hank is available to bring his
unique blend of history, music and humor to delight your audience!
