With Hank Mallery!

Delighting Audiences with Songs & Stories of America Since 1985!

With experience comes excellence! Hank honed his current craft while serving as a Park Ranger with the National Park Service beginning at Mammoth Cave National Park, then the Statue of Liberty, later Boston and Lowell National Historical Parks, the C&O Canal and others. At Mammoth Cave National Park in the summer of 1988 Hank would often break into song and quote famous theatrical visitors from the cave’s past as he lead groups on tours of the cave.  While working at the Statue of Liberty Hank had the opportunity to meet the cast of Ghostbusters and take actor Bill Murray on a personal tour.  In the evenings, since he resided on Liberty Island, Hank would often climb the stairs to Liberty’s crown, guitar in hand, and play and write songs after all the guests had left. He led visitors from around the world on tours of Boston’s Freedom Trail and through the industrial streets and mills of Lowell, Massachusetts. At C&O Canal in Georgetown he had the honor of introducing the Rolling Stones Keith Richards to the team of mules he was preparing to hitch up for the morning canal ride.  It was also here that Hank had begun to incorporate musical instruments into his programs and he took the leap from ordinary interpretive programs to honing his skills as a true performance artist.  It was this experience he brought to Cleveland, Ohio in 1999 and began a stint of performances there and across the country. In the 24 years since that first summer at Mammoth Cave Hank has personally written and performed pieces for tens of thousands and vowed with each performance to find a way to make the next one even better.

With experience comes excellence! Professionally Trained Educator and Performing Artist, Hank Mallery continues spreading his unique vision and approach providing connections and exchanges between himself and his audiences through creative, educational, and performance opportunities. Hank’s well-researched and enthusiastic performances are works of art combining several genres of music through acoustic instrumentation (including guitar and mandolin) and the craft of songwriting with drama supported by a solid background in American History.

With experience comes excellence! Hank Mallery is now seeking situations worldwide in which to provide his uniquely live entertaining education programs. When you are ready to experience excellence in craftsmanship, excellence in performance, GoHank.com!

Performances last from 45 minutes to one-hour and cost $600.  School programs are designed to enhance your curriculum.

“Towpath Tunes & Tales”

has Hank singing songs both traditional and original and telling stories as “Cletus” about America’s Canal Era.  Hank uses his three years of driving mules and working onboard the canal boats The Georgetown and The Canal Clipper on the C&O Canal to bring this program to life.

“Tall Sails & Salty Tales”

has Hank singing the shanties of the Oceans and songs of the Great Lakes and telling humorous tales of both.  Hank uses his years of working in the Charlestown Navy Yard and living in the Great Lakes region to bring you this salty characterization.

“Steel Rail Tunes & Tales”

has Hank dressed in traditional train attire, sharing the songs and stories inspired by Trains and some even written by Hobos.  Chug along as Hank uses his childhood love of trains and years spent working alongside the Short Line and other railroads and organizing festivals to celebrate the history of trains.

“Hard Times”

Hank shares a variety of music genres including folk, blues and bluegrass to take you on a musical journey through the trials and tribulations of the working class while infusing humorous stories along the way.

Hank uses his time spent working as a gas station attendant, janitor, and artist to connect with these songs and stories about financial hardship and despair.

“Appalachian Invasion”

is a program Hank has developed using songs and stories from and about the mountaineers, relating to their struggles and migration to industrial cities of the Rust Belt.  Hank uses his personal family’s journey in the 1930’s as well as years of research in this heavily bluegrass influenced presentation.

“Irish, I Guess”

has Hank portraying the jovial Irishman

Trader McGuinness to share the songs and stories of Ireland as you laugh and sing along.  Hank digs back to his Irish roots of the O’Malley Clan of County Cork to bring the songs and tales to life.

“American Folk Song Sing Along”

Hank shares the stories behind many of America’s Favorite Folk Songs and leads you in singing along.  Hank uses his 20 years of song collecting and research to provide you with some interesting insights to songs that are sure to invoke a sense of nostalgia.
